Axial tilt is the reason for the season.

Not even grading on a curve would save me.

You can go ahead and vote, anyway.

Axial tilt is the reason for the season.

Heck, you can vote when you're dead.

theDiva -- Tuesday, February 14, 2012 -- 06:48:05 PM -- 6617 of 6742

Especially in certain parts of New Jersey.

28 here, but I've had 3 glasses of wine tonight, so does it count?

Weaver -- Wednesday, February 15, 2012 -- 03:03:09 AM -- 6619 of 6742

Why? Do you usually get lucky when you drink?

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

Try the Chinese driver's license test

All creatures great and small, my ass.

Boy, that test reminds me of the form I filled out to get Cowdoc a Chinese visa.

I remember a time, back in the late 90s, when I thought nonsense like this mattered somewhat more than I do now. Now I see well-educated people yammering about the birth control choices of their daughters, or gay marriage, and I think they are morons.

Reading the Mind in the Eyes

Average is 26. I did better than that, but a few of the ones I missed I disagreed with.

Axial tilt is the reason for the season.

I got a 29, although some were really borderline.

I was error free on the first half, and then must have lost focus.

Axial tilt is the reason for the season.

Try this one:

Pincher Martin -- Monday, February 20, 2012 -- 08:47:42 PM -- 6627 of 6742
"Whoever is winning at the moment will always seem to be invincible." -- George Orwell

I can't go through all those. I did the first four and got three correct.

I will note that the eyes in question #4 belonged to Ted Bundy. And then when I went on to #5, I noticed those eyes belonged to the actor Nicolas Cage and I suddenly lost interest in the quiz.

Believe it or not, the developer of this test, Simon Baron-Cohen, is a cousin to Sacha Baron Cohen, he of Ali G and Borat fame.

I deliberately did not try to identify the eyes because I was worried I'd recognize them. Now I'm going to look again.

theDiva -- Monday, February 20, 2012 -- 10:54:33 PM -- 6629 of 6742

32. I'd have done much better if I hadn't second-guessed myself in some of them.

Axial tilt is the reason for the season.

I found it best to go with my first instinct. If you think too much about it you do second guess yourself.

Ase -- Tuesday, February 21, 2012 -- 10:57:19 AM -- 6631 of 6742
"Cold cold empty void", "Grandma's food for worms now". Atheist hymns, by Jamie R.

26. And I knew about Simon Baron-Cohen (as I should, given what I do for a living anyway). I think he deliberately has taken the eyes from films/famous people. At some point I considered using this for an experiment we still haven't done (we will do it differently). I probably should read up on it. I have no idea how I got some of them "right", but, well, I'm supposedly neurotypical so I should get them right without knowing how....

theDiva -- Tuesday, February 21, 2012 -- 02:23:55 PM -- 6632 of 6742

think too much

an occupational hazard, sadly.

Damara -- Tuesday, February 21, 2012 -- 03:48:11 PM -- 6633 of 6742
Now with fewer non sequiturs!

29. I had a harder time with the women's eyes than with the men. Even the ones I got right I had to think over. I wonder if it's because there was much more hidden by makeup and airbrushing. Or if I can "read" men better than women.

(thinks about life, laughs at that.)
