I think we truly do. If for no other reason than to have a place to shout "nine-teen, eight-teen". Heh.

momma_tiger -- Friday, April 18, 2003 -- 02:02:05 PM -- 2 of 6245

What??? Noone wants to talk baseball? Is that even possible?

(Lurking Yankees fan)

momma_tiger -- Friday, April 18, 2003 -- 02:15:15 PM -- 4 of 6245

aaaaaaaah I am a half a Yankees fan. My son is a die-hard fan, while my daughter prefers the Mets. I walk a fine line in this house!

I will say - they're already lookin' good - even without Jeter.

Sarsaparilla and fresh horses for all my men!

Godzilla's grand slam in the home opener was a thing of beauty.

Get with the program, the Yankee millenium is over. Their early season success has been nothing but PURE LUCK!

momma_tiger -- Friday, April 18, 2003 -- 02:51:27 PM -- 7 of 6245

phhht, jr - who do *you* think is going to take their place? The Red Sox? LOLOL

j. ross -- Friday, April 18, 2003 -- 02:59:33 PM -- 8 of 6245

Their so-called place is currently occupied by the Angels, proof that God is back in control of baseball.

momma_tiger -- Friday, April 18, 2003 -- 03:12:17 PM -- 9 of 6245

LOLOL Everyone can have an off season. ;-)

Sarsaparilla and fresh horses for all my men!

Yeah, and the Cubs are going to win it all this year. Yeah.

momma_tiger -- Friday, April 18, 2003 -- 03:16:56 PM -- 11 of 6245

No, no, Tad - the Red Sox will! Bwahahahahahaha!

No, see, it's a joke when you talk about the Cubs winning. Talk about the Red Sox winning - that's just gross. You shouldn't do it in mixed company.

See, if you look at ESPN's predictions, which should be here, you see that a number of these weirdos actually think the Sox will win the series. In my view, one shouldn't encourage this sort of blasphemy, even in jest.

Whereas with the Cubs, there's no chance of such an event coming to pass, so one can jest with a clear conscience.

j. ross -- Friday, April 18, 2003 -- 08:34:26 PM -- 14 of 6245

Surely you can't be referring to the FIRST PLACE Chicago Cubs who have been averaging 13.5 runs per game lately? I though not.

By Sox (with no qualifier) all sane people mean the White Sox. You can use this little trick to remember: "White rhymes with White, Red rhymes with dead.

The Red Sox may not win the World Series, but if they have a Team Signifigant Other soccer tournament I am betting on them.

This Cubs foolishness is nothing but an early spring fluke. Just wait until Kerry Woods' arm falls off. And really, I don't see how anyone who thinks the Cubs will win the series can be called sane by any strech of the imagination.

Which, come to think of it, reminds me of the main thing I worry about with the Yankees. How long will it be before Clemens' arm goes utterly south? Hopefully he'll make it through the year, but you never know. Weaver pitched well last night, but I don't know if he can fill the Rocket's shoes.

What will it profit a man to gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Just poking my left coast Giants fan head in here to look around. 13 and 2. It won't last.

I remember a time, back in the late 90s, when I thought nonsense like this mattered somewhat more than I do now. Now I see well-educated people yammering about the birth control choices of their daughters, or gay marriage, and I think they are morons.

Where are Diva and Ohio? They are both nuts for baseball.

One thing I've been thinking of is having a pool for sports betting. I realize it's early in the season, but make sure you all let me know if you're interested. I had a few bugs with the Oscar pool, but they'll be worked out.

j. ross -- Saturday, April 19, 2003 -- 02:51:14 AM -- 18 of 6245

Interested.

Although I might have to either take out a whack on Soriano or bet on (gag) the Yankees.

Alfonso has six dingers already. I'm not particularly concerned about the Yankee's hitting - they've got a ton of good hitters - I'm worried about what happens when both Wells and Clemens' arms fall off midway through the season, and Pettite goes into his usual funk.

I wish we could stop celebrating diversity and start celebrating competence. -- DancesWithWords

How is Jeter anyway? Is he out for the season?

btw, the Red Sox rule. Have you seen Shea Hillenbrand lately? He is on FIRE.
