My son keeps bugging me to watch it, and I would like to, but I'm waiting for at least the first season to appear on Amazon Prime, Hulu or Netflix.

Phillip Sheridan -- Tuesday, June 09, 2015 -- 07:45:13 PM -- 2 of 58

I'm hooked, have been for some time, and the family is hooked with me (and when I say hooked, I mean we have been reduced to taking on line quizzes to designate to which families we belong).

"You cannot just accidentally penis someone." Christopher Moore, Sacre Bleu: A Comedy dArt.

Read the books, am watching the series. Why yes, I'm a dweeb.

Phillip Sheridan -- Tuesday, June 09, 2015 -- 09:44:09 PM -- 4 of 58

Thank God. I was feeling pretty foolish all alone.

Phillip Sheridan -- Tuesday, June 09, 2015 -- 09:54:12 PM -- 5 of 58

By the way, I didn't read the books, I test Lannister in a house full of Starks, I believe Stannis may be a candidate for suicide and I don't think Ramsay Bolton had anything to do with the fires in Stannis's camp.

I remember a time, back in the late 90s, when I thought nonsense like this mattered somewhat more than I do now. Now I see well-educated people yammering about the birth control choices of their daughters, or gay marriage, and I think they are morons.

There are shows I monitor from reading about them, because they are too full of unpleasant people. I don't judge. I just don't like spending my time with unpleasant people, especially when the nice people either turn unpleasant or die.

But I watched the scene between Davos and Shirrin and have concluded that the showrunners are screwing with its audience. That was a hard, hard scene to watch knowing what would happen.

It would be fine if Davos got revenge, but the way Martin and the showrunners fuck with the characters, it's more likely he'll commit suicide, become consumed with bitterness and turn to the bad side, or get his chance for revenge and get killed, like the guy who almost killed the Mountain.

Kittehs are sold by weight, not by volume. Some settling may have occurred.

Read the books, watch the series. It's been fun seeing it diverge from the books, in good ways and bad.

Thank goodness for my friends at Franzia!

Tho books started seriously boring me by Book 4. Not paying to watch it on screen.

Phillip Sheridan -- Wednesday, June 10, 2015 -- 04:28:32 PM -- 9 of 58

As an audience member, I don't feel screwed with. It's a brutal show, but the sacrifice of a child to God/the gods is straight out of the Bible and Greek tragedy.

And I love unpleasant characters if they are interesting. The villains of Westeros fascinate me. Hell, Scar is my favorite Disney character.

I love how the show rejects convention in terms of disposability of characters. No one is safe, which is to be expected in such a violent setting.

Lilith -- Wednesday, June 10, 2015 -- 05:19:25 PM -- 10 of 58

I read the books and my partner has been watching the show. I mostly ignored the first couple of seasons of the show aside from trying to be careful not to reveal any spoilers. Sometimes he would ask me about a character and I would always have to ask him what he knew about that character currently before I would tell him anything.

I was finding books 4 pretty tedious and overly complex and I'm actually pretty happy the show is leap frogging over some of the longer more drawn out parts of the books and advancing the story pretty rapidly and now I'm avidly watching the show.

"North Korea has just launched another missile. Does this guy have anything better to do with his life?"--President Trump (tweeting)

Not to derail the thread, but Scar isn't really unpleasant, though. He's a straightforward villain who (I agree) is much better than most from Disney. Watching him is a pleasure.

An unpleasant villain is, say, this guy (since I haven't seen GOT, this is the closest character to on-topic I could come up with off the top of my head):

Phillip Sheridan -- Wednesday, June 10, 2015 -- 05:28:33 PM -- 12 of 58

Not a derailment at all.

I thought Commodus and Scar were both unpleasant at times. Both were conniving, both wanted power, both were petulant. Their dividing point was mental illness.

But I dug them both because they were interesting.

Phillip Sheridan -- Wednesday, June 10, 2015 -- 05:40:37 PM -- 13 of 58

Game of Thrones has an impressive array of villains, all of whom can be unpleasant and all of whom are almost always interesting. I'm often as broken up when they are dispatched as when the good folk are done in.

I still get misty over the death of

Damara -- Wednesday, June 10, 2015 -- 08:04:31 PM -- 14 of 58
Now with fewer non sequiturs!

He had a totally awesome death though. He really went out in style. I don't watch often, and gave up on the books early on. I catch the spectacle every now and again.

Phillip Sheridan -- Wednesday, June 10, 2015 -- 08:29:18 PM -- 15 of 58

I was impressed at his confidence that he could negotiate his way out of it.

Charles Dance does contemptuous sneering like nobody's business.

There's a reason we don't do Greek tragedy much anymore.

Besides, Shireen was still alive at the end of book 5.

This is something that the TV showrunners got from Martin, and they decided to use it early. The book fans shut their mouths about Red Wedding for over a decade, and their reward is to be given a big spoiler about the next book?

No. That's not Greek tragedy. That's fucking with the audience, also known as being a complete shit. The book readers should start spoiling all the future events.

Phillip Sheridan -- Friday, June 12, 2015 -- 01:24:56 AM -- 19 of 58

Can't read. Spoilers. Spoilers.

What--no one's watched the most recent episode? Yet another reason I'm glad I didn't watch. (g)
