In MSCL, I'm leaving to go vote in the NH primary. Dunno who I'm voting for yet, but I'll figure it out.

Free From the Tyranny of Pants!

Yeah, but as soon as you post off the lot, it depreciates by 30%.

Yay, new thread!

shiny new thread smell!

and here I thought it was Frank's feet.

I am ashamed to admit that I'm sure it's my feet you smell. I got to work today and had to change shoes, because my good ol' dependable Skechers had an unmistakeable funky stench. They smelled so bad that I couldn't concentrate on what I was doing.

Lord have mercy, girl.

Axial tilt is the reason for the season.

You closed the other thread because of your romantic flower delivery. You bitch.

Good thing I had another choice under my desk.

Sadly, I don't think I can wear them to dinner tonight, even cheap Chinese won't cover that up.

by all means she must go adorn'd with chains of Sausages

New thread resolution: actually manage to stay on top of the OSCL thread.

No, be like me. Someone needs comfort or reveals astonishing news and 2 weeks later you can feel like an idiot for missing it.

This is me in real life, why should OSCL be any different?

An optimist is never pleasantly surprised.

In MSCL, I am posting from my desk in my lab with lights and power and phones and everything!!!! They just turned the power on this morning, floor by floor, and plugged things back in and so far so good. They are still doing safety inspections in the building and we aren't supposed to start working until the whole building is cleared. Mostly we are just checking equipment, and that everything stays on while they are turning on more labs.

As far as what was lost, we won't really know for some time, but it seems like things in refrigerators were probably the most vulnerable. The freezers were attended to quickly, and that's where most long-term and sensitive samples are stored, so most of that stuff is probably okay. The refrigerated stuff is usually most easily replaced. So I am hopeful at this point.

That moment when you have so much shit to do that you decide not to do any of it

I'm glad to hear some stuff was able to be preserved after all.

Not much remarkable happened today, except that I started the day way too early, which was just as well since I had to pop down to the local convenience store (which has a kiosk for my bank) to get money for Henry, who forgot to tell me he needed it last night, when we were out and about in a land replete with stores and ATMs, and to get milk, because nobody told me that there was but 1/3 cup milk left in the bottle.

I stopped at the fish market on the way home, forgetting that Henry would be eating dinner elsewhere, and bought too much flounder.

My son Declan had his first tap-dancing class today. He's taking tap with his best friend N, and their teacher is a 13 year old boy who's in the blues band Mairead sings for. He taps and plays flute, and he's really good. Also patient with these 6 year old boys. Declan and N are thrilled to be learning from A, and he's excited to be teaching. N's mom and I are each paying him $5 per 45 minute class. Deal!

theDiva -- Thursday, January 10, 2008 -- 01:13:45 AM -- 18 of 25966

oh, cool! And it just tickles me Mairead sings blues.

It is pretty cool. They have 3 gigs over MLK weekend. Should be fun.
