If anyone knows of any currently fabulous elastic or knit-waisted skirts that wouldn't dwarf a person of say, 5'2" would you let me know?

Stretchy knit skirt, not too long, at Lands' End:

Kinda casual, from old navy:

Tiered, knit skirt, also Old Navy:

Target has a dizzying array of truly horrible skirts, but if you're willing to page through them, there might be something decent there.

I remember a time, back in the late 90s, when I thought nonsense like this mattered somewhat more than I do now. Now I see well-educated people yammering about the birth control choices of their daughters, or gay marriage, and I think they are morons.

Lands End, Old Navy, and Target are all affiliates.

I just ordered the first skirt from Old Navy. I would prefer if the material were 100% cotton jersey but for the price, I decided I might as well try it. It is really easy to return to ON stores if I don't like it.

MOTHER: Don't you remember? We do NOT use ADJECTIVES!

The Target site doesn't have any of the linen a-line skirts I've been wearing as my default this summer. I have tan, white, brown and cream print, brown and pink print (from last summer) and a blue, green and white stripe (also from last summer). I couldn't find anything that really went with the skirts I bought last summer until now. The current pink and green in the Mossimo t-shirts go perfectly.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting her saying, "Mormo? What's a mormo?" Obviously I am.

Thanks, Nicola. The Lands' End and Old Navy ones look particularly promising. I have such high hopes for a non-painful waist.

Skunk in the trunk.

I think it's time for an intervention. Or at least a restraining order barring me from entering teenybopper stores anymore.

This roller coaster is the one I stood in line for/hands in the air these ups and downs here are paid for. --Blackalicious

I'd be a little nervous about the little patch pockets over the breasts, but other than that it's adorable! No intervention yet.

bessy -- Friday, July 07, 2006 -- 06:56:03 PM -- 12 of 11118
You were chained to a girl who would kill you with a look/It's a nice way to die, she's so easy on the eyes/She said "Let's get away" but you played it by the book/You're a warden's pet, she's a screaming suffragette

Eh, I think it's cute and I'd wear it in a heartbeat if it wouldn't make me look like I was 50 pounds heavier.

theDiva -- Friday, July 07, 2006 -- 06:58:39 PM -- 13 of 11118

It's adorable. It reminds me very much of a dress I had back in my disco days.

rtb -- Friday, July 07, 2006 -- 07:06:41 PM -- 14 of 11118
Live from New York!

I'm not crazy about the puckering/ruching/whatever. It is hard to tell since the dress pictured is black, but it doesn't look like it makes sense or even if it's intentional.

Skunk in the trunk.

It looks pretty nice on. I also got this from the Crap:

You are the Proust of TPW, and we all prefer J.K. Rowling. -j. ross

So cute and preppy.

theDiva -- Friday, July 07, 2006 -- 07:09:49 PM -- 17 of 11118

it is cute! I've decided I really like that skirt length on me, too, so I might actually snap up a couple of those before summer's end.

lexuh -- Friday, July 07, 2006 -- 07:10:29 PM -- 18 of 11118
Skunk in the trunk.

The skirt's on sale on the website for $19.99, but I got mine at the store for $12.99. Last one!

theDiva -- Friday, July 07, 2006 -- 07:11:14 PM -- 19 of 11118

how's the sizing run?

lexuh -- Friday, July 07, 2006 -- 07:12:23 PM -- 20 of 11118
Skunk in the trunk.

Pretty big. I bought a 4, I think, and I generally wear a 4 or 6 in skirts from ATL and the like. I wear my skirts low, though.
