I have discovered, and love, Lehmans. You have to see it, really, they have lots of non-electrical stuff, camping gear, natural cleaners. I found a soap I wanted there for my sons breakouts. It worked like a charm and their other stuff is cool too.
Also, this stuff can be somewhat pricey but I really like the products. Soapscum
A candy store practically in my neighborhood. The kids and I love their ice cream shop/ factory, they have a giant chocolate castle.
abebooks.com searches a worldwide network of used booksellers, so you can find that cookbook your mom used to have, that children's book you used to remember, or almost anything that's out of print, often quite cheaply.
For good medical information, Medline Plus is useful -- it not only offers information for laymen, but also sets up Medline medical journal searches on selected topics.
ClinicalTrials.gov offers information about ongoing and recent clinical trials, especially those recruiting participants.
Ooh ooh on the clinical trials site, thank you. My youngest son, the one with Tourettes, is in a clinical trial. The decision was difficult but we made the correct one, he is doing great.
I've never linked anything in before so please bare with me if this doesn't work.
Warning: it takes a while to load.
This is one of my favourite places to shop. Although I think this site has been beautifully put together, it doesn't quite do the store justice. The actual store is a 1930s/1940s Colonial Chinese style department store in Central, Hong Kong. It sells wonderful silks, stylish clothes (modern with a Chinese-style twist, both off the rack and tailor made) and homewares, bath type products (e.g. candles in fragrences such as gingerlilly).
Now let's see if it worked ...
... Grrrr, it didn't work. I followed the instructions in the "help" but I must have missed something. I'll find somewhere else to try again (so that I don't annoy everyone by posting mistakes again) before I come back to post the link again!
OK Lee, first of all, your tagline is already the working title of my memoirs, second, I'm dreaming of decorating my house-to-be in an Asian motif and here you are posting links to Shanghai department stores, and third, you chimed in so kindly in my hour of need over in death, you simply must meet me over in one of the chat threads and tell me all about yourself, I already feel like I've known you for years. If you've already signed off for the night pop into so called lives or comings and goings tomorrow night so we can get acquainted.
