DENVER (AP) -- Brittney Griner and Baylor left no doubt they're head and shoulders above any team in the country. In fact, they're perfect.Griner had 26 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks to lead Baylor to a dominating 80-61 victory over Notre Dame in the NCAA women's basketball championship on Tuesday night, capping a 40-0 season for the Lady Bears. They became the seventh women's team to run through a season unbeaten and the first in NCAA history to win 40 games. It was the second national championship for Baylor, which also won a title in 2005.

I saw much of the championship, as well as Baylor's semifinal game against Stanford on Sunday. I prefer more competition. It's not very much fun to watch a team dominate like that.
And Baylor's domination in winning the tournament and going 40-0 this season is much like women's collegiate basketball in general. It lacks the wider distribution of talent found in the men's game. All four number one seeds went to the final four in the women's tournament. And to get there, they all faced the number-two seed in their regional finals. The men, by comparison, had only one number-one seed, two number-two seeds, and a fourth-seeded team in their final four. It's a more interesting tournament because it's more competitive.
I wonder why women's collegiate basketball doesn't have the talent more evenly spread around the NCAA?
