related link: Flood coverage

This boy, Jordan Rice, died to save his brother

This town, Grantham, was devastated yesterday. There are believed to be around 30 cars under the bridge, many with people in them.

This man was trying to reach his invalid mother in Brisbane.

The RSPCA put out a call for people to come and take dogs to look after them.

Floodwaters in Qld capital Brisbane are expected to peak in about two hours time.

It's a tragedy of almost biblical proportions -- a story that is being grossly under-reported in the U.S.

Not suprising Sterling. The US mainstream media is notorious for it's lack of recongition of the rest fo the world (unless the US is at war with them). Thank goodness for the internets.

To be fair, we should really say that US media is chronically single-threaded. In this case, all their cycles are consumed with the Tucson shootings.

Brisbane is my home town - I was back there over Christmas. It's absolutely surreal to see places I just visited now underwater. Wishing all the best to those affected (my family are fine, thankfully) and hoping the cleanupcan start in earnest soon.

A BRAVE little tugboat has saved Queensland a billion-dollar repair bill, steering a fast-moving pontoon weighing hundreds of tons away from the Gateway Bridge.
